Medlab Pathology

Quantitation of Hepatitis B viral DNA

Medlab Pathology is pleased to announce that it is now accredited by NATA to offer testing for the Quantitation of Hepatitis B viral DNA.
Collection Requirements: 2x EDTA tubes (can not be shared with other tests)
Test Frequency: At least twice per week

Please note: This test is subject to Medicare’s Rule 25 that restricts the number of times the test can be ordered in a year, based on the following conditions:

  1. If the patient is Hepatitis B surface antigen positive and has chronic hepatitis, but is NOT receiving antiviral therapy – one test per year; or
  2. If the patient is Hepatitis B surface antigen positive and has chronic hepatitis and IS receiving antiviral therapy – 4 tests per year

It is therefore a requirement that, on the pathology request form the requesting provider indicates if the patient is receiving antiviral therapy or not when ordering this test.
